Choosing Quilting Designs
The choice of design is not so much in picking out a printed drawing of what suits the quilt as in finding out what the quilt is saying to you – what can be pulled out of the prints or the “feel” of the quilt to enable the vision of the quilting.
There are hundreds of floral and leaf designs printed right on the fabric which can be interpreted on to the quilt.Kids' quilts lend themselves to jolly stars and loops or whatever is the theme of the piece.
Some edgy modern pieces look wonderful with straight lines and triangles and squares.
Simple meandering has become almost traditional-looking in the quilt world and is sturdy and can work well on a masculine piece or a piece which will be laundered a lot.
Borders filled with simple loops or leaves or even straight horizontal lines look nice too.
